Atmark Techno develops a new SUZAKU-V model employing the latest FPGA

Atmark Techno, Inc. (Head Office: Sapporo Japan, President: Tomohiro Saneyoshi) has developed a new model of the SUZAKU-V series of Linux ready small form-factor embedded FPGA boards. This new board is based on the Xilinx Virtex-4 FX FPGA, and will be available from SUZAKU distributors from the 10th of October, 2007.
The SUZAKU series are an embedded platform based on a range of FPGA, with all FPGA containing a processor capable of running Linux. The free area inside the FPGA can be used to implement and change hardware functionality, while Linux provides access to rich open source software resources. With these features, by using SUZAKU it is possible to both flexibly and quickly meet the demanding requirements of the development of devices produced in high-mix low-volume production runs.
Features of the new SUZAKU-V
Due to the technical advancement and improved design of the employed Xilinx FPGA, the new SUZAKU-V board offers higher processing power and a greater degree of expandability.
- The FPGA has been upgraded from a Virtex-II Pro model to a Virtex-4 FX model, with increased free hardware implementation area.
- The clock rate of the internal PowerPC405 processor has been increased from 270MHz to 350MHz.
- System memory has been changed from single channel SDR SDRAM to dual channel DDR2 SDRAM.
- The previously external network controller is now contained within the FPGA.
The new SUZAKU-V board will be available as a board only model designed to be used in volume production (product ID: SZ410-U00), and also as part of a starter kit (product ID: SZ410-SIL) for beginning FPGA development. The starter kit includes a 400 page manual* which is a step-by-step guide beginning with FPGA hardware development and running through to Linux application development, and is suitable as an entry level text for FPGA and embedded device development.
* The starter kit manual is currently only available in Japanese.
The new SUZAKU-V board will be on display at the Embedded Technology 2007 (ET2007) trade show to be held at PACIFICO YOKOHAMA from the 14th to the 16th of November, 2007.
