Atmark Techno develops a new Linux ready small form-factor FPGA board and I/O expansion boards

Atmark Techno, Inc (Head Office: Sapporo Japan, President: Tomohiro Saneyoshi) has developed a small form-factor Linux ready board utilizing the latest FPGA device as the newest member of the SUZAKU Series. Together with this, Atmark Techno, Inc also announces the development of the SUZAKU-I/O Boards for easy I/O expansion.
The SUZAKU Series are a line of small form-factor FPGA(*1) based board computers. The utilized FPGA devices all include a CPU, on which Linux(*2) runs as the standard operating system. As an embedded platform, it is easy to extend and add required functionality to the SUZAKU boards by utilizing the flexibility of the FPGA. This, together with Linux's strength in networking and other rich software resources, makes it possible to develop network ready products both easily and speedily. The SUZAKU series are the perfect board computers for use in projects with highly customizable short-run production and also projects where products must be supplied over an extended period of time.
The new member to the series, SZ130-U00, utilizes the Xilinx Spartan-3E FPGA, which provides for an increase in the scale of circuit designs that can be implemented in the FPGA. SZ130-U00 also has an increased memory size and access speed.
To provide for a further increase in speed of the development of network ready embedded products, four SUZAKU-I/O Boards have been developed for easy expansion of the SUZAKU series.
- LED/SW Board: Includes multiple LEDs and switches making it a perfect FPGA learning tool.
- A/D Board: Up to 16 AD converters, perfect for use in a measurement device.
- USB Board: USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) host functionality for connection of various peripheral devices.
- AV Board: Image and sound input and output allow for digital signal processing.
The SUZAKU-I/O Boards all include board schematics and FPGA designs, Linux device drivers and sample programs. This availability of all basic hardware and software requirements is expected to greatly lessen embedded development time and costs.
These new products will be on display at Embedded Technology WEST 2006 on the 10th and 11th of May in the Xilinx booth (3-004).
*1 FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) are reconfigurable semiconductor devices.
*2 Linux is an open source operating system.
