Atmark Techno develops Linux network terminal

01/04/2006 - 13:08

Atmark Techno, Inc (Head Office: Sapporo Japan, President: Tomohiro Saneyoshi) has developed Armadillo-210, a small form factor Linux network terminal with improved security functionality.

Designed as the successor to Atmark Techno's existing small form factor network terminal Armadillo-J, with the move from a ARM7 to a ARM9 processor Armadillo-210 offers approximately a five fold increase in performance. With this, it is now possible to utilize the world standard IPSec and SSL protocols in order to ensure secure transmissions. The next generation networking protocol, IPv6, is also supported.

As Armadillo-210 is software compatible with Atmark Techno's top of the line Armadillo-9, it is possible to create middleware and applications using a shared development environment. It is also possible to carry out development using the full functionality of Armadillo-9, and then use the low cost Armadillo-210 for mass production.

NetBSD has been ported to Armadillo-9 by users and also runs on Armadillo-210. Nextech, Inc (Head Office: Sapporo Japan, President: Norikatsu Ohishi) has developed a product based on Armadillo-210 running NetBSD.

Armadillo-210 will be available from the 15th of December, with pricing expected to be JPY25,000 for the development model and approximately JPY15,000 for a 100 unit order of the mass production models.

Armadillo-210 will be on display at the Embedded Technology 2005 Conference (PACIFICO YOKOHAMA, organized by Japan System House Association) at Atmark Techno's booth (D-05) from the 16th to 18th of November.
