07/01/2004 - 10:11
July 1, 2004 - Atmark Techno, Inc., Sapporo, Japan (President: Tomohiro Saneyoshi) today announced that the Linux ready ARM 9 CPU Board, Armadillo-9 has been developed.
Armadillo-9 is the most powerful board solution in the Linux-ready "Armadillo"series. It is equipped with the new EP9315(Cirrus Logic) processor, making it three times faster than the previous version. It also includes video output and USB interface to address the Armadillo users' high demand. With the newly added video output function, it becomes easy to not only create measurement and controlling devices, but also media terminal systems with video output as well. Compatibility with the USB interface makes it possible for users to expand its possibilities by making use of the various USB devices on the market. Additionally, memory storage has been doubled, a hard-disc interface is added, and the floating point functionality made more powerful, all while staying the same size as the first generation Armadillo.
One of the Armadillo Series' main features is using the open source developed operating system, Linux. The New Armadillo-9 also supports Linux, and runs the original Armadillo's applications as they are thanks to the ARM processor's high compatibility.
Armadillo-9 will be available in two models; the standard production model of the board itself, and the developers' model including a development kit. Sales of 3000 units are expected in the first year. Shippping will start around September 2004, and will be offered along side the original version of the Armadillo.
"Armadillo-9" will be displayed from July 7th at the "Embedded Systems Expo and Conference (ESEC)" to be held in Tokyo Big Sight.
